The TrimUI Smart Pro S is the latest iteration of TrimUI’s horizontal handheld, and you’ll immediately notice that they’ve made significant improvements. All the buttons have been revamped, the sticks feel better and are now clickable (L3 + R3), whilst the face buttons now have a much finer, tighter feel. Add to that extra power and a crisp IPS screen, and you’ve got a handheld that packs a surprising amount of capability into a compact form factor.

With this handheld, TrimUI hits the sweet spot when it comes to performance and price, and then there are those colours… they’re really lovely.

Unique to the RetroGear TrimUi Smart Pro S, we install NextUI on the device as standard; this is a really nice and extremely user-friendly UI/front-end that makes it easier to, for example, install games on your handheld. If you prefer, you can easily switch back to the standard OS should you not be interested in this one.

Why is it TrimUI Smart Pro S is special

The Smart Pro S is TrimUI’s latest step forward, and you can feel it the moment you pick it up. This PSP lookalike isn’t just better finished, it’s also a lot more enjoyable to play with. The redesigned sticks are now clicky and more precise, and the modified face buttons provide much better feedback than on previous models.

Under the bonnet is the Allwinner A133P (A133 Plus), which gives this handheld a significant performance boost. Whereas older models sometimes reached their limits, the Smart Pro S now runs PSP games smoothly at double the resolution (and higher). Systems such as Dreamcast are also perfectly playable, making this handheld surprisingly versatile for its size.

And as we’ve come to expect from RetroGear, the TrimUI once again features a stunning 4.96-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 720×1280, delivering a sharp and clear picture, ideal for both retro pixel art and 3D games. Thanks to the Linux operating system and support for over 20 emulator formats, you can customise it entirely to your own taste.

And then there are the colours. TrimUI is releasing this Smart Pro S in several fresh colourways. I personally went for red (purely for historical and research purposes, of course 😉), and that colour is so beautiful that even someone who normally always chooses black would be won over by it.
