AYANEO Pocket Micro (Antec version) - premium micro handheld with dual analog sticks
I test a lot of Handhelds out, which is my job, after all. This model spent a week on holiday with me along with its little brother (regular version), and both are really nice devices. What strikes me most is how premium and sturdy these handhelds feel, yet at no point do you feel like you have to protect it when you stuff it in your pocket (except against a bunch of keys perhaps).
The AYANEO Pocket Micro Antec version is a special variant of the Pocket Micro, with two analogue sticks instead of the standard layout. As a result, this version feels just a little more complete for those who like extra control and flexibility in a super compact size.
Like the regular Pocket Micro, this is typical AYANEO: small, premium and remarkably well-finished. You immediately notice that this is not a simple budget handheld, but a compact Android handheld with a luxurious look and surprisingly many features.
This copy is refurbished in category A.

Technically, the device is just fine and cosmetically it still looks neat. If you are looking for a premium handheld that looks good while being priced a bit friendlier than new, then this is a very nice option.

Why the AYANEO Pocket Micro Antec version is special
Of course, what makes this version especially unique is the presence of two analogue sticks. You don't often see that on a handheld of this size. This makes the device feel just a bit more versatile and gives you a layout that feels more natural and complete for many users.
The Pocket Micro itself is a very special device anyway. Its compact size makes it ideal to carry everywhere, while its aluminium casing and sleek finish immediately give that premium AYANEO feel. Everything feels sturdy, solid and luxurious.
The buttons are pleasant to use, the finish is, as we have come to expect from AYANEO, very neat, and especially in this Antec version, the dual sticks make the device feel even more like a full-fledged mini-handheld.
Because this is a category A refurbished model, you get one with a scratch-free screen and only slight signs of use on the casing. That makes this a nice middle ground between new and used.
So if you are looking for a small handheld that not only looks nice, but also offers just a bit more control than the standard version, then this is a very interesting version.

Frequently asked questions
What does category A mean?
Category A means the screen is scratch-free and there are only slight signs of use on the casing. So the device still looks clean, with only normal traces of previous use.
What is the difference with the regular Pocket Micro?
The Antec version has two analogue sticks, which makes it more comfortable in daily use for many people. As a result, this version feels more complete than the standard version.
Does this device really feel premium?
Yes. The build quality in particular is something many people are positive about. The aluminium body, sleek finish and solid feel in the hand are real strengths of this model.
Is it really as compact as the name suggests?
Yes, it is definitely a small handheld. However, many users do report that the analogue sticks stick out slightly, making it less sleek than a completely flat device. In a jacket pocket or bag, this is usually not a problem.
Is it comfortable for longer sessions?
It depends a bit on your hands and how you hold it. Many people find it surprisingly comfortable for such a small device, but there are also users who report that the low position of the sticks takes some getting used to. The top half with D-pad and buttons, on the other hand, usually gets high praise.
How is the software experience?
Because it runs on Android, you have a lot of freedom to configure it to your own taste. However, some reviewers and users do mention that AYANEO's own software is not always its strongest point. The hardware is often rated higher than the software layer.
Is this a good choice if I care mainly about build quality and size?
Yes, just then, this is a strong model. In discussions, it is often seen as a compact, luxury handheld with great attention to materials and finish, more than as a pure budget option.
