The Pocket AIR Mini is an affordable Android-based retro handheld that feels most at home with systems up to and including GameCube. And all that in a compact, luxury casing that feels surprisingly premium.

Why the AYANEO Pocket AIR Mini is special

What makes this handheld really special is the premium finish. AYANEO has taken a lot of luxury from their more expensive models. Everything just feels right. The joysticks are super accurate, the D-pad and facebuttons are quiet and easy to press, and the analogue L2 and R2 triggers are something you rarely see in this price segment.

The plastic has a fine texture and the build quality is really unbelievably good. Whereas with some handhelds we are used to slight flex or creaking during intensive gaming, the Pocket AIR Mini feels like one solid unit. No creaks, no movement, just a solid device that fits comfortably in the hand. The colours are also very well done. Personally, I am a fan of the Retro White variant.

The 4.2-inch screen has a resolution of 1280 × 960 and a 4:3 aspect ratio. This makes the handheld very suitable for many retro and semi-modern systems. Both older consoles and 3D systems look sharp and natural. For 16:9 gaming, this is not the ideal handheld, but it is not intended for that either.

The variant we sell at RetroGear is the most powerful version, with 3 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. Additional storage via a microSD card is highly recommended, so you can easily transfer games to the handheld from your PC.
